Organic SEO Services by Jan Hvizdak

I gave up development of the Cross-Linker plugin for WordPress as well as the Captcha Godfather plugin for WordPress because people are experiencing problems with compatibility. Well... I created these plugins, tested them, but I am not responsible for others' plugins nor for further development of WordPress. In fact, I hate WordPress and soon I will be upgrading this website and WordPress will be removed. Just one experience to show why I deeply hate WordPress: I've been commenting on blogs, but now I cannot. I cannot because about 50% of blogs return blank screen after submitting a comment. I don't know who fucked things up, but I know that without WordPress the world would be a better place. WordPress gave plenty of people a chance to blog. WordPress is also used for spamming purposes, is spammed and doesn't bring any additional value to the world. Plenty of crap blogs, unbelievable stories about how easy it's to make money blogging and such bullshits... WordPress is crap and am not going to use it any longer. It's the same story like with Windows OS. I had to remove it from my computer because it was fucking things as much as possible. I am a happy user of Linux for years now; No more Windows, no more WordPress. Consider quitting WordPress too. I am a coder so it's fucking easy for me to develop a core of my own blog, but even a "me not coder" can create some simple website which will replace WordPress shit. Oh, by the way... WordPress is very bad in terms of SEO. If you decide to donate, you're just saying thanks. All about donations and such things will be removed or modified as soon as I find some time to make some peace from the garbage left by WordPress.

Currently I am writing for blog at web-developers.net where I explain more about SEO, internet business, links and so on. Read why I am writing there. If you are using the Cross-Linker plugin for WordPress and if you want me to solve anything, then consider making a donation ($122 received until now; updated manually):

Invalid submissions, “SEO experts” are stupid

Well, today I made a big check for invalid submissions within my directory. Even there is clearly described that submissions with fake names and submissions into the top level categories are deleted without review, so-called SEO experts do this basic mistake day by day. Actually I deleted about 40 submissions.

I “like” especially those who use emails which belong to some “SEO” company. Usually links builders from India, Pakistan, but also from Belgium. Names such as “G3linkbuilder” or “Alexxxxxxxxx” mean that URLs behind those names will not be checked anyway. The problem is that someone paid those “experts” for work, but they do this shit only… And bear in mind, I am not talking about quality of web sites, because I am sure that many of such web sites are listable.

Free SEO services?

Can you imagine that anyone would offer you SEO services for free? I wouldn’t do so. Free search engine optimisation services are usually virtually offered by web sites which show Google AdSense ads as their primary goal.

Here are reasons why no-one can work for free:

  1. What is the benefit from such job for the service provider?
  2. Who would guarantee the buyer that the chosen person really works?
  3. Would the buyer have any guarantees that white-hat SEO is done only?

Now, me as a buyer and you as a worker, picture yourself as someone who would offer such services. Ask yourself:

  1. Why do I want to work for free?
  2. Am I qualified enough to work? (No? Then you can really work for free; You’ll be a time-waster)

It is really funny to think that SEO of good quality can be offerer at no cost. So when you can get a real free SEO? Only if you buy the thing “A” and you’ll get something for free. However, this is usually offered by firms which aren’t skilled enough at the area. They offer directory submission for instance. Once you buy a submission into 200 directories, they will give you another 50 submissions for free. But directory submission as an standalone process can’t be considered as SEO service. Why? Because the company or an individual must understand your goals.

Let’s take a look at this simple example:

You came to this site and after reading, thinking, reading and thinking again, you decided to try do some business with me. You have a site which has very low traffic and you don’t understand the process of improving positions in search engines, or you don’t have any time to do so. So let’s agree on a $500 deal. I will analyse your site, we will define your goals, I will design some basic schedule of how we are going to get your site visible. Naturally, I will provide you everything in the written format. So after 10-20 hours you will have a clear idea of what to do. Now I will make a gesture of goodwill and will offer you something for free. Let’s say I will offer you submission into directories or comments on blogs of good quality(actually, this is better than submissions into directories). You will take it, I will do it and we will be satisfied with our project.

OK, this is how you can get free SEO services. But it’s very rare scenario because the major part of people working at the SEO industry know the directory submission process, but nothing else. Would someone who does not know more ways of achieving the goal offer you anything for free? I don’t think so.

Don’t trust scam, don’t be fool :) , everything has it’s cost.

MFA sites: Block poorly paid ads!

A sponger, bastard, idiot and other similar words describe everyone who has a site made for AdSense. Since these “nice” guys lower the income from clicks, it is important to block them. Natually, you have to block them in a few cases only. Let’s go through it and increase your income from AdSense by 10, 20 or even 50 percents. Sites which qualify for blocking fit these criteria:

  1. Advertise on AdWords,
  2. Show ads or affiliate links as their primary content,
  3. Contain no useful content.

OK, so how to decide which MFA to block and which one to leave on your site? Firstly you should check the Google Analytics in order to understand your primary traffic. Let’s say you have traffic from 150 countries. There may be different ads for each of those 150 countries and what’s more, every country might have it’s own MFAs. I always calculate what’s enough. If 90% of your visitors are from US and UK, then it is not necessary to block MFA sites in other countries. Be aware that many made for AdSense sites show their ads in Canada, UK, Australia, France, but not in the US just because of simple reason; The US market is filled with quality advertisers. However, this is not true for every niche.

Once you have a list of the most important countries you can click on your microsoft internet explored (I hate it) and install the Google AdSense Preview Tool (GAPT). Actually, it needs one action to be done as well; Understanding where your visitors click the most. I recommend to create URL channels within your Google AdSense account, so that you’ll be able to find the most

  1. Clickable
  2. Earning
  3. Viewed
  4. CTRable”
  5. eCPMable”

pages on your site. Now you can start playing with what you’re going to optimise. In my experience it is good to check pages with the most clicks.

How to check for inappropriate ads?

As it’s mentioned above, simply open the microsoft internet explorer and once you installed the GAPT you can see which ads are shown in another country easily. Every page with the AdSense code can be checked this way; Just open it, make a right click with your mouse and pick the “Google AdSense Preview Tool”. A new small window will open and you’ll be able to select another country, or ads types.

Here we are slowly achieving our goal. If you see suspicious ads in your GAPT, mark them and later click on “Show selected URLs”. In a new window (or tab, or browser) simply open that URL. You’ll see what’s the destination URL.

That’s all folks.

Bear in mind that blocking MFA sites will not increase your AdSense income automatically. If you block inappropriate advertisers, you will probably see no change. However, it is also possible to increase your revenue by 50% in some cases. So if you are earning $100 per day right now, it could be $150 per day from yesterday.

Repeat this activity every 2-3 weeks, otherwise new bastards with their made for AdSense sites will take over your ads. In my experience about 30% of sites are “stable” MFA and 70% are new. This happens because many MFAs go bankrupt after 3-4 weeks. And, of course, they may be punished by Google.

Ethical Search Engine Optimisation

Today when I was on my way home I saw two small kids with a spanner near one older car. They were probably trying to do something with the left front wheel. One of them spotted me and gave a signal to the second one to stop. It was too late…

Imagine your web site as an object controlled by such kids. They are playing, playing and hoping for a miracle. One day someone walks around and they’re caught. How unfortunate… Traffic from Google becomes zero, you don’t even rank for your own domain name and everything looks pessimistic. As days go by, you’re not able to determine what went wrong. Sometimes you get a hit from Yahoo or MSN, but those old good days are irretrievably lost.

In order to avoid this scenario, you should follow these tips:

  1. Never allow anyone to install “free directories” on your site. These directories are usually links farms (links machines) with thousands of outgoing links. The idea behind such strategy is not bad, but you never know who’s listed in such “directory” and you can’t control it’s content. The directory’s provider could add hidden links, hidden text, cloaking pages there and so on. In addition, adding 2000-3000 pages and approximately 20000 – 40000 outgoing links overnight will convict you from becoming a link farm.
  2. Never place a list of “related keywords” on your pages. This strategy works perfectly, but once you’re caught, no-one will save you. Sometimes it is possible to use related keywords on your site, but it must comply with content and must be a natural part of your web site especially usable for your visitors.
  3. Never allow anyone to access your content management system’s admin area. So-called SEO’s could install cloaking scripts there, may use hidden text or hidden links.

In addition, it is recommended to test the company which provides you with their SEO services before you give them a project on your primary business. Let them show you their skills on a small project with low competitive phrases and then you can decide for further cooperation. The feedback or references shouldn’t be considered as the one and the last material which you’re going to use for a selection.

Once the company or an individual proves to be reliable, you can start trusting them. A company which does ethical search engine optimisation will never use one of following techniques:

  1. Hidden text or links
  2. Doorway pages
  3. Mirror sites
  4. Irrelevant keywords lists, keyword stuffing in general
  5. Installation of links machines on your site
  6. Buying links
  7. Spamming on forums or blogs
  8. Automated directories submission software
  9. Guaranteeing the results
  10. Redirecting the Googlebot to other content than visitors can see, this is called pages cloaking
  11. Sending emails to thousands of recipients in order to fictitiously increase your traffic

Domain name suggestion service

If you came here looking for the domain name suggestion service, visit this page and leave your enquiry there! I work for thruSITES (the previous link points to thruSITES’ contact page) and you’ll get the best domain name for sure!!!

No doubt that the domain name is very important part of it’s future growth. Basically, there are two major points when selecting the domain name:

  1. The name; The mark. Nearly everyone wants a web site to be an on-line representation of his business. Building a strong and serious mark is undoubtedly the first and the most important goal in the entire thing.
  2. Improving positions in search engines. The mark is nothing if it’s unknown to potential visitors and every domain name should reflect this aspect with 100% precision.

And here we meet the first problem; Buy a domain focusing on the name, or the potential from search engines? There is no prescription about what to do and what to avoid, and probably 100 out of 100 people would suggest you different domain name.

In order to understand the problem, let’s quickly go through the domain names which I bought for myself:

aqua-fish.net

Starting point:
I didn’t know anything about search engines and improving the amount of visitors. I didn’t even know how important the domain name for it’s future growth.

Disadvantages:
Missing word “aquarium”. This makes a lot of processes more difficult than with that word within the title.

Advantages:
Very short domain name. Another advantage is that it reflects the topic and contains the word “fish”. In addition, it is easy to remember!

sport-cars.org

Starting point:
This is my first “domain name suggestion service”.

Disadvantages:
I see no disadvantage here. One might say that the hyphen can be a problem, but it is not actually.

Advantages:
Both words reflect the topic which is the site about very clearly. Easy to remember.

services-seo.net

Starting point:
I thought that I know a lot about search engine optimisation, even I didn’t so. I firstly wanted this site to be something like “my portfolio” and I wanted to rank well for “seo services”.

Disadvantages:
I changed the goal of this web site as time went by. Sometimes the domain name might be misleading because of previously mentioned reason.

Advantages:
The word “SEO” is in the title.

a-bonsai.org

Starting point:
I wanted to start a web site which would be my passion, my hobby. Actually, this is what I met.

Disadvantages:
I can’t see any disadvantage here at all.

Advantages:
Very short domain name and with the word “bonsai” within the title. I “suggested” this domain name very wisely in my opinion.

carsarmored.org

Starting point:
I wanted to start a web site devoted to armoured cars. Yeah, I like them a lot.

Disadvantages:
No disadvantages.

Advantages:
This domain name is simply fantastic.

As you can see, I organised the domain names in the order as I bought them. This is why the last one is the one which I am very proud of.

My own rules when doing the domain name suggestion:

  1. It never takes 5 minutes,
  2. Search until you find something short and easy to remember,
  3. Never use more than 1 hyphen and more than 12 characters,
  4. Decide after seeing statistics of phrases search volume,
  5. Know what the site is going to be about,
  6. Create 3-4 alternative scenarios, never rely on 1 solution only,
  7. Find something unique (jooooomla.com isn’t the best, isn’t it?),
  8. Check potential “partners” which sit under different TLDs (top level domain; com, org, net, …).

What is organic traffic?

Since there are several ways how to get visitors to your web site, they were divided into a couple of categories. Basically, there are only two guaranteed methods; organic traffic and paid campaigns.

I personally don’t prefer paid traffic because if it isn’t successful and you stop it, the amount of daily visitors will dramatically decrease. Is there a worse situation for any web site than having 0 visitors? No.

That’s why I always tell everyone that free traffic from search engines is the best technique how to do your business. In general, “free traffic from search engines” isn’t always free, because if you pay someone for search engine optimisation, then you have to pay for it from time to time. On the other hand, you can always say “enough” and positions acquired until that day will stay the same, or even will get better.

So the answer on our question is: Organic traffic is traffic from free search engines where links to the destination web site aren’t paid.

As we found an answer to the primary question, we’ll find another question; How to get organic traffic?

The second question can be answered relatively quickly, but it is not as easy as it seems to be. Getting an organic traffic is usually a long-term process especially if you aim on high-competitive phrases. This process is called the search engine optimisation.

This post would contain about 20 000 – 30 000 words if I wanted to explain every aspect of search engine optimisation, and you can easily browse other articles here. Anyway, I’d like to show you a few most common mistakes when asking and answering what an search engine optimisation is.

First of all, there is no such action as “search engine optimisation”. I’d rather use the term “Improving positions in search engines” or even “Building an organic traffic”. Everyone who has ever seen a real optimisation process must know that the basis of optimisation is a predetermined algorithm. And there is no predetermined algorithm in improving positions in search engines. What’s more, search engines’ algorithms are updated from time to time. But OK, let’s call the process of improving positions in search engines the “search engine optimisation”. The world is stupid in more cases than this one.

The second most common mistake is that the search engine optimisation service provider guarantees the result. If you meet anyone who guarantees the result, stay away from such person. Why? Because no-one but very limited group of people knows the algorithms. Naturally, there are well-known facts which work, but I guess there are about 30%-40% of factors which haven’t been revealed yet.

The third mistake is that the buyer requires guaranteed results. Basically, it is logical that you require something from people who are working for you, but I wouldn’t work for anyone who wanted top2 positions in a predetermined time (1-2 months for instance). Asking for guaranteed results simply means that the buyer doesn’t understand the thing at all.

The fourth problem is that the search engine optimisation is usually considered as link building (directories submissions, posting on blogs, spamming in many cases, etc.) only. Even link building is usually enough, very competitive phrases require more than hundreds of links. This contains analysis, content writing, and new ideas.

New article on my bonsai site

A friend of mine (and my business partner too), Patrik Ruzic, wrote one article about bonsai trees for our site. It was too difficult to translate it into English because I had no time for such stuff during the last 2 weeks. Fortunately, today I finished it and it can be found here. Growing bonsai trees is my passion :) .

Serious business; That’s my work

As I mention on the homepage, here at services-seo.net, I do ethical search engine optimisation only. In fact this means that some results are achieved, some aren’t. Additionally, I don’t guarantee results at all. On the other hand, real and positive results are usually achieved as time goes by.

And because I don’t work for questionable clients, it is almost always possible to get a listing at dmoz.org, where I am also an editor. Don’t think that one editor for a small sub-category may modify entire directory :) , please.

Today I found the one site which I work for listed in dmoz. It isn’t too much surprise, but it’s good anyway.

Here are the sites which I work for, or which I own, and their dmoz category:

  1. FindMyIgloo.Com; link
  2. thruSITES.com; link1 and link2
  3. CarsArmored.Org (this is mine); link
  4. Aqua-Fish.Net (this is mine; link1 and link2 )
  5. Keno10.Webz.Cz (this is my non-commercial blog); link

Of course, I have more sites and I have been working for more clients which aren’t listed there, however it is no problem for me. The listings above just prove that less is sometimes more. I don’t have hundreds of web sites and I don’t work for hundreds of clients. It’s everything about quality.

The 301 redirect

First of all, this topic has been discusses thousands times on various forums or sites devoted to SEO. Anyway, it’s still worth a post since everyone has his own rules and reasons of doing each activity. So let’s start…

The worst case in SEO is moving a single web document from one URL to another without telling the visitors and search engines where it appears after relocation. Basically, there are several ways how to redirect a page. These techniques include:

  1. Meta redirect
  2. JavaScript redirect
  3. 301 redirect

JavaScript is not recommended because Google won’t follow it. What other people don’t say is that the JavaScript based redirect can be effectively used for advertising purposes. So everything has it’s advantages and disadvantages as well.

Secondly, the meta redirect is based on using the <meta> tag with the attribute refresh within. Basically, it is not too bad to use it, but there is no guarantee of successful following the final destination. Why? Because many spammers have been using the meta refresh thing for redirecting a visitor from an ordinary page to another “inappropriate” document.

The last and the most recommended thing is to use a 301 redirect based on the .htaccess file. Simply put the following code into that file and you’ll tell a search engine to follow every link from the domain A and land on the domain B with the same URL except the domain name of course.

Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteEngine on
rewritecond %{http_host} ^something.tld [nc]
rewriterule ^(.*)$ http://www.something1.tld/$1 [r=301,nc]

Actually, this is not why I started this post. I wanted to show you an example of redirecting an URL1 to URL2 within the same domain. Here below is a PHP code for this purpose:

<?
Header(”HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently”);
Header(”Location: http://www.newuri.tld”);
exit();
?>

Simple, isn’t it? The advantage of such script is that it can be placed anywhere, even at the bottom of the page (bear in mind that headers should be sent first!). I just wanted to say that you can call some procedures which are working with MySQL, etc. and later you may decide for a redirect.

Why to use such technique?

  1. You have 2 or more URLs pointing to the same content. /?a=1&b=2 and /?b=2&a=1 for instance,
  2. You created new shorter URLs. For example, /?a=1&b=2&c=1&d=4 can be now used as /?xx=4.

In general, the above-mentioned cases should convince you about advantages of a 301 redirect. Shorter URLs are appreciated by Google and they usually get higher positions in results pages than URLs with too many characters within. In addition, shorter URLs are better for humans as well.
